My speech
For those of you who have 45 minutes that you never want to get back, I have attached a link to a speech I recently gave in Evansville, Ind., to the Tri-State Genealogical Society. My speech was titled "John E. Iglehart and the Lure of Local History." I first became aware of Iglehart through Tarbell.
To be honest I hesitated to put this link up. I really don't like giving speeches (which never stops me from accepting) and I'm never pleased with the result. This is also the first time I've attempted a PowerPoint presentation. I second all Bill said. I was fine in front of middle schoolers, but giving a speech to a group of adults - just the thought makes me apprehensive.

Thanks guys. I do appreciate the kind words. I think my biggest problem is that instead of making it more like a speech, I feel like I'm reading an article, which, of course, is what one does at an academic conference. It seems to me that speeches should be less formal.

Rob, I am often surprised at the number of people that have not heard about Toastmasters International. Or else they have the wrong ideas about it.
Basically it .... began in the US and is a not for profit organization with members worldwide. The aim is, in summary, to enable people to speak in front of a group. If you are ever going to give a speech at wedding or funeral or at work , it helps. It's quite cheap and you can attend a few meetings free. I joined 30 years ago, stayed for 8, left, rejoined, left, and rejoined. ( Various reasons for leaving). It has weaknesses but overall its great.
