Is this Abraham Lincoln?
I received this image in an email from a visitor to my website. She purchased it at an auction in Bloomington, Illinois. She is wondering if it is Abraham Lincoln. Do any forum members have opinions?

RE: Is this Abraham Lincoln?
I do not believe so. Again, I concede that mine is a practiced but still amateur eye.
The shape of the ear and the shape of the nose are wrong to me. Also I do not think the cheekbones are as prominent as Lincoln's. There also seems to be a difference in the eye shape and brow ridge. I have tried to attach comparisons with two left profile images of Lincoln but I couldn't get it to work. I will send to Roger for him to post to the thread. |

RE: Is this Abraham Lincoln?
No, his hair is not right, to neat and tidy, not coarse enough
I think the ears are to small. Nice picture though. Too nice. Looks more like Lincoln than he did himself. But then again.... So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

RE: Is this Abraham Lincoln?
I agree with Gene and STS for the same reasons. Especially the ear and nose. Plus in the full image the man looks to be a few kilograms heavier than Lincoln would have ever been, the chest and arm seem very "full". Even the cheek doesnt have Lincoln's thinness.

RE: Is this Abraham Lincoln?
I agree with Scott, Mike and Gene for the reasons they stated.
Roger, can you ask the owner to send an image of the back of the photo. What's the size? Is it a CDV? Thanks. |

Agree-especially the ear and nose. To the untrained eye it would be assumed that it is the genuine article. We know better

(01-29-2020 01:13 PM)Anita Wrote: Roger, can you ask the owner to send an image of the back of the photo. What's the size? Is it a CDV? Thanks. Anita, I received the following response: "The size is approximately 8x10. It's on some type of heavy paper and not a CDV. It is quite old, the frame nails were rusted to the back board and the color of the board was quite different on either side. It's an old photo and my thought was because of the angle of his head in the photo perhaps some of the features might be skewed. Here is a larger image for you. The photo was trimmed as there's remnants of the top of a letter on the bottom." |

RE: Is this Abraham Lincoln?
Roger, thanks for posting this. I was hoping size, writing or photographer's information would be visible.
I still believe this is not Lincoln for all the reasons stated in posts here. In addition to those given, the right hand(holding the page of the book) appears quite thick compared to Lincoln's long slim hand. Donna may be correct suggesting it's an image of a Lincoln presenter. Definitely one of the better likenesses. |
