Crazy Weather
Hey everybody, stay warm and dry! Last year today we got 2 feet of snow, (on top of the 18 inches or so we already had) but this year you can see the grass! And our highs are hovering between 40 - 45. Not what the ski resorts want though! And many of you are freezing and getting slammed with snow and blizzards. Hope you all are safe and warm and dry. And by a nice warm fire, with lovely hot chocolate and a fantastic book to read.

RE: Crazy Weather
Has anyone seen the #museumsnowballfight trend on Twitter because of the bomb cyclone hitting the East Coast? I just moved to Michigan and it was 15 degrees today with a wind chill making it feel like -10. I'm also making a lot of extra money shoveling driveways. Hope all members in the areas the bomb cyclone is hitting are OK.

We only got a few inches of snow, but the temps are so low that the road chemicals are freezing instead of thawing the highways. Now the winds have picked up, and the windows are rattling. I'm skipping the hot chocolate and heading for a hot toddy! The temperatures on Friday and Saturday are supposed to be even worse. My plan for my old age was to spend winters in Florida and summers in Maine. Somehow, I've gotten terribly side-tracked... |

I spent 2 weeks during the summer of 06 in Acadia National Park and could really use a trip to Disney World right now. Thomas Kearney, Professional Photobomber. |

RE: Crazy Weather
What a winter this has turned out to be!!! Down here in Louisiana, where we barely have a winter, we have already had snow that has lasted all day! That never happens! LOL! We haven't had snow down here since 2006 and it wasn't like this. This snow was around for a couple of days. It has been around 17 degrees at night and during the day, it has been around 30-35 degrees. We are freezing down here. Not much, in comparison to the east coast, I know, but for us down here, this is a real winter.

RE: Crazy Weather
It’s been so cold here in Michigan our dogs don’t want to go out. We are supposed to get a break this week-reaching into the 40’s.

I'm siding with your dogs, Bill! Luckily, I'm potty-trained, so I have not stuck anything except my nose outside the door since Dec, 29, when I went into work only long enough to sign off on staff time cards. My car decided to die on New Year's Day, so it spent two days in the warm bays of AAA. I even cajoled their techs into bringing it back to me since my legs and lungs don't work well in this abominable weather, and I haven't been outside yet. Tomorrow, however, I do have to go to work; and if that engine knows what's good for it, it better turn over. The temp right now is 31, so I have high hopes that it will go above freezing soon. It is supposed to be in the 50s in D.C. by Friday. Then we'll all wonder why we have caught a cold or sinus problems. Yo-Yo weather - gotta love it, If that darn Groundhog sees his shadow on February 2, I'm going to Pennsylvania and throw a grenade in his lair. I want spring, and I want it now. I don't see how you snowbound Yankees take this weather year in and year out. |

RE: Crazy Weather
Bill - It was downright balmy here in Maryland today. I went to work with the temps reading 21 and came home with them at 36. Freezing rain was supposed to start around 4 pm, but nothing so far. And, they are predicting temps in the 40s and 50s through the weekend. This I can tolerate. Hope y'all in Michigan are fairing better also.

RE: Crazy Weather
In Paducah, KY yesterday we had a high of 64. Right now at 12:30 (lunch time) it's snowing and 18 degrees with a wind chill of 6.
So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

And y'all are pushing it our way, Gene. Right now, it's in the 60s here in Southern Maryland, but predicted to be in the mid-30s by noon tomorrow. Mother Nature is getting on my nerves.

RE: Crazy Weather
According to my car's thermometer, the temperature plunged 28 degrees in an hour and a half here in Southwestern Pennsylvania, from 66°F at 2:30 p.m. to 38°F at 4:00 p.m. And a full 20 degrees of that had happened by 3:30.
I have endured a great deal of ridicule without much malice; and have received a great deal of kindness, not quite free from ridicule. I am used to it. (Letter to James H. Hackett, November 2, 1863) |
