RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia
Fun site Eva. I looked up turtle doves. https://www.theguardian.com/science/punc...1/sep/09/3
What a beautiful bird with very different plumage than the mourning doves visiting my yard in SoCal. |

RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia
We call the species "Turteltauben" (Tauben = doves), after the birds' purring we use the same expression for two lovers as well as "turteln" for "to flirt".

Three French HensĀ - The three virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity Living at the sea I am more familiar with Faith, Hope and Love, especially as tattoo... Today's task is of this kind: http://rogerjnorton.com/LincolnDiscussio...l#pid68960 The dog witnesses a dialogue that mentions Lincoln. Where is the image from, and what (as for Lincoln) the dialogue exactly about? |

I did just learn that there is a Lincoln carriage in the childhood home of Judy Garland (Frances Gumm) in Grand Rapids. Is this trivia question related to the Horse of a Different Color that draws the carriage that takes Dorothy into Oz? http://oz.wikia.com/wiki/Horse_of_a_Different_Color |

RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia
Well done, it is from "The Wizard of Oz" - and both of you score. Now there's another point to win for figuring the dialogue /Lincoln - whatabout.
So far: Laurie: 3 Gene: 1 Dennis: 1 (12-27-2017 11:29 AM)L Verge Wrote:Good idea, but my image is from the very scene I am looking for. No horse therein.(12-27-2017 11:15 AM)Dennis Urban Wrote: Don't know the dialogue but looks like "The Wizard of Oz" Just to clarify and specify - I am looking for a feature of Lincoln that is talked about and "wanted". This time you "officially" may consult the Google. |

RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia
There is a line in the Scarecrow's song, "[something, something] thinkin', I could be another Lincoln, if I only had a brain."
I did not remember the exact words when I posted the above, and had not resorted to The Google. But after I posted, I checked The Google for the exact words. I was close. The wording of the line was "You could be another Lincoln, if you only had a brain." (Scarecrow) I could wile away the hours Conferrin' with the flowers Consultin' with the rain And my head I'd be scratchin' While my thoughts were busy hatchin' If I only had a brain I'd unravel any riddle For any individ'le In trouble or in pain (Dorothy) With the thoughts you'd be thinkin' You could be another Lincoln If you only had a brain (Scarecrow) Oh, I would tell you why The ocean's near the shore I could think of things I never thunk before And then I'd sit and think some more I would not be just a nuffin' My head all full of stuffin' My heart all full of pain I would dance and be merry Life would be a ding-a-derry If I only had a brain |

Well done, Bill! Here is the scene:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1B0Ho2ieEjA Well, I have no brain to offer, but an "earworm" instead (that's what we call a catchy tune that you won't get "rid" of for awhile): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm3ypbAbLJ8 Laurie: 3 Bill: 1 Dennis: 1 Gene: 1 (This is now hopefully pc ladies-first-and-alphabetical order. ) |

Four Calling BirdsĀ - Four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John Well, I'm afraid there's at least one further photo to Ms. Verge's advantage (I will have to think if substitutes...). This however not - I took this photo of a comic book in an Austrian supermarket and was quite tempted to purchase (but cons prevented - no time, to money, no room to store...). Who is this lady supposed to be? |

Hint #2: She has been mentioned on the forum as well as an incident that links her to one "Lincoln".

RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia
Looks like a singer or dramatic actress of some dimension. Caricature could be of Laura Keene, but I don't get the "M" pin on the dress.

RE: Twelve Days of Xmas Trivia
Although it looks nothing like the lady I thought of, I agree with Dennis that the first thought jumps to a singer - and for me, an opera singer. My first thoughts were of Beverly Sills and Leontyne Price, both of whom performed at the Met in Lincoln Center. But that didn't cover the "M" that Dennis noticed. The only "M" that I could come up with was Marian Anderson and her famous performance at the Lincoln Memorial.
