A total of 16 people are known to have died in the White House.  Willie Lincoln died there in 1862.  Who was the previous person to Willie to have died there?

Well, "Lincoln's avenger' has to be Boston Corbett and in thinking of Irish connections, I can only come up with Edward Doherty?

Yep, you got it straight away with Doherty.  I thought people would lock on to Corbett.  I'll post an image of the Sligo connection when I'm on the laptop.

To the beloved memory of Elizabeth Crawford Gribbin, first love and wife of Henry- Doherty, Esq; and their son Joseph and his three sons Michael Colonel Henry-J. Doherty and Captain Edward P.- Doherty. The brave avenger of President. Lincoln and their youngest daughter Catherine Teresa. and to • the- memory of their eldest daughter Mary Anne'ElizabethDoherty who in fond - remembrance has erected this monument in the year 1887. "May they rest in peace". In memory of Catherine Teresa Doherty who died 26th November 1886 aged 79 years. And of her sister Anne Elizabeth Doherty who died 5th November 1901 aged 97 years. May their souls rest in peace Amen.

Captain Edward P. Doherty (1838–1897), known as "Lincoln's Brave Avenger," was the Union cavalry officer who led the military pursuit and cornered Abraham Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth, in April 1865. Though born in Canada, his family originated from County Sligo, Ireland, with deep local roots commemorated in Sligo town and its historic graveyard.

He is actually buried  in Section 1 (Grave 427-A) of Arlington National Cemetery
