Keep your fingers crossed that restoration work will begin soon at Surratt House. We are in desperate need of exterior work in all areas, and moisture coming in from the outside is creating interior problems. Somehow, government restorations of historic sites always take backseats to other budget items until the situation becomes dire.
Hint #1: This is a general American history question that is not specifically related to Abraham Lincoln. However, the event which is directly related to this house has been mentioned previously on this forum.
Was it an event during Lincoln's lifetime? If so, did he know thereof?
Please allow another question - was it a private event (birth, marriage, death,...)?
If I twist my head and screw my eyes up I could kid myself that it almost looks a bit like President Ulysses Grant's house in Galena before there were some major changes.
