Maybe she is not a real person. I thought at first she might represent the wife of the artist. I know nothing of the artist. Maybe she represents a female who becomes the first president?

Very good, Bill! This is what the artist said during the interview I saw. The lady represents the first female President and is walking to join the other Presidents. In fact the artist predicted that American Presidents would be 50% male and 50% female from now on.

No. Not Albert.
This person joined as a Private and ended the war as brevet Major General.
(that rank was actually formalised just at the end ... after being a brigadier general for quite some time).

I get the impression his looks belie his nature (as you can imagine for someone rising from Private to Brigadier General) .

He fought on the Eastern half of the US ... in just about every major battle there.

Before the war he worked for the New York Tribune ... not as a journalist ... his politics were very probably similar to the editor's.

He was a Private in the spring of 1861. One year later he was Colonel of his regiment under McClennan's command
   

Note the shirt. He also had a sword which was not the usual type carried by generals.

This man came close to being killed at Gettysburg (he was "mortally" wounded), Dennis.
That might have been another clue.

I had lots more to come ... the man's wife had the same name as a woman in a Thomas Hardy novel (Jude The Obscure). But Warren went and got it correct! Well done, mate. I thought I'd need to go for days.

This person was compared to a newsboy and called the Boy General. Married one day and enlisted the next. His wife followed him and became , basically, a battlefield nurse and ended up caring for him. He was found near dead by a Confed general and conveyed to Union lines. Wife died of typhus.

He became NY State Attorney General and was active in Republican politics and investigated the 1876 presidential election, the Hayes-Tilden election for irregularities and criticised his own 'side'.
