RE: Extra Credit Questions
Eva, I will give a couple of hints. Paige, your guesses were excellent. Unfortunately neither one is correct.

Hint #1: Lincoln first met this man in 1832.

Hint #2: Here is a picture of America.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
I tended to think it was rather someone he met in the Black Hawk War, but all of those (I checked) men's wifes had other names. Weak guess: Mentor Graham? (Though A. Lincoln most likely met him already in 1831.)

Excellent guess, Eva, but it was not Mentor Graham.

Hint #2.5: America was born in 1806, and she has her own page in the Find A Grave website.

Hint #3: America's husband once described the young Lincoln as "a very tall and gawky and rough looking fellow then - his pantaloons didn't meet his shoes by six inches."

Bingo. That would be Stephen T. Logan, Lincoln's second law partner.

Wonderful, Blaine! You are correct. Stephen Trigg Logan was married to a lady named America. Her page (and Stephen's) on the Find A Grave website is here.

You win one whatnot.

I have no idea, but I'll guess Nebraska as its state capital is Lincoln.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
May I ask: during his presidency, thus after his inauguration, or on the way to the first one? (In the latter case I'd guess NY.)

I agree with Eva. If you mean President-elect then I will guess Albany.
