Portraits of Lincoln the lawyer in all Illinois courthouses
The Illinois State Historical Society will be putting 30 X 40 inch framed canvas portraits of Lincoln in every one of the 102 county courthouses in the state of Illinois for the 200th birthday of Illinois. The photograph was taken on June 3, 1860 of a beardless Lincoln by renowned Chicago photographer Alexander Hesler. I think that it is an appropriate selection of photographs since this date was at the end of Lincoln’s career as a lawyer in Illinois.

Wonderful.
Is it this portrait? It's one of my favorites. (Hesler took at least three others that day.) I used it in my Lincoln: His Own Words on the 150th anniversary of his death. I have endured a great deal of ridicule without much malice; and have received a great deal of kindness, not quite free from ridicule. I am used to it. (Letter to James H. Hackett, November 2, 1863) |

I wonder what Lincoln would have thought about this.

Please Google this information: Lincoln portraits donated to Central Illinois courthouses KEVIN BARLOW Herald & Review News Service Oct 25, 2017 Somehow I got from there to several good images of the same picture included with the article. However, I was unable to post any of the good images that I was able to reach from this point. Perhaps you can do so. The photograph shows the strong character of Lincoln even before Lincoln followed the good advice of Grace Bedell sent him in a letter from Westfield, New York, urging him to grow a beard to improve his appearance.
