I think it is Powell's father

You are right on, Laurie. It is Lewis Powell's father --> the Reverend George C. Powell. Once again, the photo credit goes to Betty, and she obtained the photo courtesy of Rufus Yent, a Powell relative.

It's a good one - I can just recommend to make the image Google-proof to not lead into temptation....

That was amazingly quick, Eva. I may need help.

No idea - is it a member of the military commission that tried the charged conspirators?

RE: Assassination Trivia
No, Roger, sorry (and thanks to Eva for being honest and warning me about the need to change the picture slightly).

This man did have some involvement with the military early in his career. But that may be a red herring.

His surname has one 'r' (some might be surprised).

None of the following is much help but interesting I hope ... He made a living in the same line of work as his father (German-born, I see). Strangely though his father sent him away to learn the trade in another city (Richmond).

If Eva, who knows the name, wants to try adding a clue she is more than welcome (because I am going to struggle)

I have received questions about this through my Lincoln website, and now I will say it's Henry Deringer!

Sorry, long day filled with garden and other duties - what a pity because my clue would have been without the military but something including his original name - originally the "device" would have been a Döringer. Sounds a bit like a sausage...

It has been years since I have been to this place, but I believe that it is about JWB's education because I think it is The Milton Inn - a fancy restaurant today, but once known as the Milton Academy when our boy attended school there

Something to do with the Gettysburg Address?

Good guess, Mick, but Laurie's is a hole-in-one - kudos, Laurie! Thanks to Bill B. for the photo and "inspiration"!
