A Personal Spy?
We are selling a new book on Spies in Washington, DC during various periods of the nation's history. Chapter 2 is about 12 pages of blurb-type histories on various ones related to the Civil War.

There is mention there (with no source notes) that Mr. Lincoln had his own personal spy, a gentleman named Lloyd (first name William? I'll verify that later). According to the authors, Mr. Lloyd was paid $200/month.

Has anyone ever read this before and researched its veracity?

I just answered my own question https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Alvin_Lloyd

Has anyone researched anything further as far as his veracity? He seems to have gotten some compensation from higher-ups...

RE: A Personal Spy?
Laurie, is this what you may be referring to?

We talked about this briefly a couple of years ago

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

OMG - senility is really setting in! When Joan Chaconas asked if I had ever heard of Lloyd, I said yes, but couldn't remember where. To be reminded here that a book was written on him by my dear friend Jane Singer is totally embarrassing. Thanks, everyone.

Looks really good! Wish we could see Jane more often ...Laurie, maybe have Jane as a speaker at the Conference next year?!

RE: A Personal Spy?
Jane has been a speaker before at our conferences. Not sure that she has something new and different that she's working on. She's been busy on a multiple book deal for the past few years, I believe.
