RE: Who is this lady?
Someone please tell me that this woman actually smiled occasionally! Did she have a warm and friendly personality?
Joe, how do you know these things and these people?? I'm amazed! And yes, Roger, it should be "she." |

RE: Who is this lady?
Thanks, Laurie.
You can read a little about Hannah Armstrong here. For anyone interested in reading about one of Lincoln's most famous court cases....the "Almanac Trial"....there's a really interesting book that came out back in 2000 titled MOONLIGHT - Abraham Lincoln and the Almanac Trial by John Evangelist Walsh. |

RE: Who is this lady?
Laurie - I've seen that photo before, as I am a serious Lincoln buff as well as the assassination story, but I didn't remember her until Roger mentioned fighting.
Hannah is such a nice, old name I named my daughter Hannah. I remember thinking that she'd never meet another child with that name. It turned out to be the most popular girl's name the year she was born. Roger - what do you think of the story that Lincoln used an almanac for the trial that was from a different year than 1858? RE: Who is this lady?
Joe, I lean toward him using the right almanac (but I really don't know), but the fact that he got a man guilty of murder (in my humble opinion) off bothers me. Although I do credit Lincoln with using a series of creative tactics in court, in my estimation it is not one of Lincoln's finer moments (character-wise).

RE: Who is this lady?
Maybe it was justifiable homicide. Was this the case/movie that Henry Fonda portrayed Lincoln, ("Young Mr. Lincoln" - and wasn't there 2 Armstrong sons accused of murder in the movie?)
For you Roger.... http://aa.usno.navy.mil/cgi-bin/aa_moonp...57&ZZZ=END So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

RE: Who is this lady?
I have seen that photo quite a few times because I have always admired the hat; but for the life of me, I can't remember who she is. Kate Warne of the Pinkerton Agency maybe???

RE: Who is this lady?
Grace Bedell, the young lady who wrote Mr. Lincoln that he should grow a beard.
Now where have I seen her picture before? http://rogerjnorton.com/Lincoln50.html So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

RE: Who is this lady?
As a former teacher do you still have authority to issue a hall pass to the bathroom?
I'd like one for the next time I take a cruise. So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

Gene, kudos! Indeed that is Grace Bedell.
A cruise it is! Give them 24 more hours to get the Carnival Triumph wiped down, and then when it departs, you will be on it free of charge! "The ultimate in relaxation and adventure" |
