Who Said This?
Who said/ wrote this?

"Three fourths of the political world - those who lead especially - are corrupt-fish - dollar-power seekers - mud hunters - scoundrels"

* Hint - He was a contemporary of Lincoln

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

RE: Who Said This?
All good guesses, but no

Hint #1 - this person is probably best know for his association with Lincoln before he became president. However, the statement was made in 1861.

Stephen Douglas?

I cheated and looked it up. Seward wrote this to Leonard Swett regarding the appointment of Simon Cameron to the Cabinet, so Bill appears to have given the correct answer - unless my source is wrong. http://abrahamlincolnandthecivilwar.word...nard-swett

RE: Who Said This?
An "Honorable Mention" to Laurie for cheating...which is perfectly acceptable in the world of politics.
That must have been a common saying back then.

Your "Honorable Mention" prize is a, well unfortunately you will have to settle for a Crusty Cur, also from the Cozy Dog, same time, same place.
