Am I assuming correctly that Lincoln and the gentleman were contemporaries? Did Lincoln know of the gentleman (due to the gentleman's accomplishments)?

Eva, this man was born before Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, but Lincoln never knew him or his accomplishments.
