RE: Who is this person?
Great, Rob. My eyes start watering just thinking about it.

The scan of Reverdy Johnson's handwriting came from an old Lincoln Lore dated November, 1964. The "My Dear C" was John Cresswell.

RE: Who is this person?
Eva and Rogerm- good tries but he is neither.

Hint #2 Illinois and Abolitionist

Hint # 3 He wrote to Lincoln:

Springfield Aug 17. 1858.

Mr Lincoln

I send enclosed, -- though I suppose you have been at Tazewell. Judge Trumbull came on Saturday -- he received your letter written at Beardstown. He goes to Alton this evening,-- I am not certain that he will go to Rushville, though I think it important. I also send you a letter from Sharpe

Since Trumbulls speech -- they are all mad.

No news from other counties since you left.....
