Smyth and Garrett do it again...
Just received the newest edition of Richard Smyth's and Jim Garrett's research on the Lincoln assassination. This book is entitled The Flags of Ford's Theatre. I hope to be able to at least skim it within the next few days, and I'll let you know what to expect.

It will be on sale at the Surratt Conference with both authors participating in the Authors' Hour signings.

Unfortunately I will not be there for the conference to have the book signed but I will pick up a copy when I come down in May. Looking forward to reading this book.

Would you like Rich and Jim to sign a copy and I will tuck it away for you to pick up later? I think the three of us can remember to do that.

RE: Smyth and Garrett do it again...
Hello all! Yes, hopefully Jim and I have answered many questions; did one flag trip Booth, was Lincoln holding a flag in his hand at the time he was shot...and was one flag (The Lincoln Flag) used to cushion the president's head and is stained with the martyr's blood?

That flag is currently at Ford's Theater for their display of assassination related relics through (I believe) May.

As mentioned in the book, I was a docent at the Pike County Historical Society and had full access to their files. Our assessment of The Lincoln Flag is based on documented facts. If you are at all interested in obtaining a copy of the book, do so through the Surratt Society as I do not think the Pike County Historical Society will be carrying it any time soon.

RE: Smyth and Garrett do it again...
You cannot imagine the time and effort that has gone into researching these flags that were "Silent Witnesses" to the Lincoln assassination. Tracking these relics after the event, separating fact from fiction, and daring to question the provenance of one particular flag has been a monumental task for Richard and Jim.

The book is also filled with wonderful photos and graphics. Great job, guys! It will definitely be on sale at the Surratt Conference (for $19.95 with a 15% discount for Surratt Society Life Members).

RE: Smyth and Garrett do it again...
This book is Rich's third born child. I have to give Rich the credit. "Flags" started out as a chapter of our long term opus on the relics and artifacts from the Lincoln Assassination. Rich did such an exceptional job on the flag chapter, we decided the "Flags" could stand on it's own. The layout genius and editor was Jim Page (also on the discussion symposium) and i cannot thank him enough for his suggestions and expertise.

It was my please to assist with this great book. For those who may have worried about one aspect, please be reassured that the centerfold of Jim Garrett did not make it into print.
