RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
Gene,

You could say that, but not as a writer.

Next clue.

He was born just shortly after the end of the Civil War and his father started the war as a private raising to the rank of major before war's end.

Next clue.

The child who was as well known if not better was his daughter.

Final clue

At this rate, getting the answer could take "Twenty Days."

Frederick Hill Meserve

Rob, I know you said no googling, but after your last clue, the daughter was likely Dorothy Kunhardt. But I didn't know who her father was, so I had to Google her Wikipedia page. I hope that won't disqualify my answer.

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
You got it Steve. It was Frederick Hill Meserve.

No worries on the searching. It turned out to be a bit harder than I anticipated.

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
Please, no Googling.

Hello all. As I continue to heal and find it darn near impossible to do any serious work on my Tarbell biography, I figured it would be time for more Tough Tarbell Trivia.

To whom was Tarbell referring when she wrote of a potential Lincoln source, "To make him a serious witness has always seemed to me a little absurd."

Clue. It is not William Herndon.

Darn Roger, I thought that would last longer, but you nailed it! It was Hanks. In a memo for herself she called him simple-minded and garralous.

Great job!

Thanks, Rob. My past record on the Tarbell trivia is very poor; nice to get one right for a change.

RE: Tough Tarbell Trivia
Dave,

I had my second session of therapy today. It's pretty rough going. I doubt that I will be able to go to work until at least the end of the month. I'm really bummed about having to put my book aside, but not being able to type easily makes it pretty much impossible. I am working on some non-typing things but that's really just busy work. It's taken me about 15 minutes to type this. Thanks for asking.
