Studebaker museum lending Lincoln carriage to Smithsonian

Joe B. once found that they recorded sounds from the carriage for the movie "Lincoln." He found an article in the Washington Post and quoted from the article:

"At the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend, Ind., they found the elegant barouche carriage that Lincoln took to Ford’s Theater on the night of his assassination.“We recorded the door opening and closing,” Burtt said. “We recorded the squeaky suspension.”

If we can, we hope to visit this exhibit on the Friday bus tour with the Surratt Conference on March 20, 2015. We've got some tricks up our sleeves this year as far as the two bus tours are concerned....

Interesting history. RTL sold it to a doctor who used it for years in his practice. Wonder if the doctor ever gave any thought that the carriage might be of significant historical value- if not then- maybe in the future? This reminds me of the JFK car that was kept in service of subsequent presidents for several years following the assassination.
