RE: Confederate Housekeeper's photo found
Good things are still out there waiting to be found! Betty O will love hearing about this -- but I'll let her tell you why.

RE: Confederate Housekeeper's photo found
That's a great find, Joe. Varina Davis wanted Margaret Coleman to come to Richmond with with her but Margaret stayed in Washington and was later hired by the Sewards as their housekeeper. Varina tried to get Margaret a job in the government but I guess that didn't work out.
I'd love to find a "young" picture of Margaret. |

Quote:Betty O will love hearing about this -- but I'll let her tell you why. Yes, they are out there somewhere.... I'm STILL looking for a photograph of young Lew Powell in Confederate uniform, taken when with Mosby's unit. And - a photo of his Virginia girlfriend, Bette Meredith which may have turned up. Still verifying that - those elusive Branson ladies still continue to "tease" as well.... they're out there - they just have to be found.... I also used to do an "impression" of Mary O'Melia, complete with Irish accent (I know, I know, my Gaelic accent sounded somewhat as if I had been coached by the Lucky Charms Leprechaun! when I was reenacting years ago. I was hired by the MOC for their evening and weekend programs - and I loved it..... "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |
