Eva E., yes indeed it does. It is printed in full in "The Lincoln Anthology: Great Writers on His Life and Legacy from 1860 to Now" which was published in 2009.

I have a copy. I need to advise you..if you ever have trouble falling asleep some night Herndon's lecture on Ann Rutledge is just the ticket. Forget wine, warm milk, or sleeping pills. He spends at least 2-3 pages describing the scenery...the hills, streams, meadows of New Salem.

I wanted to scream, and in fact I didn't finish it. It was the most boring, silly thing I've ever read!

Thank you Toia, not just some night (but mostly and as long as I can think back) - so this Lincoln-related wonderdrug with no side effects is perfect for me!

Since the title of this thread is "Lincoln & Herndon"- I'll make the following observation here- I was glancing through Herndon's Life of Lincoln book earlier today and came across a mention by Herndon that Lincoln had owned property in Iowa. I don't recall that. Lincoln owned property there?

This site writes A. L. spent three days in Iowa in August 1859 "to examine land that had been pledged by Chicago attorney Norman B. Judd as collateral for a loan from Mr. Lincoln." There's a lot of further info on this:

Unless I missed it- it doesn't mentioned what eventually happened to the Lincoln property in Iowa.

William Herndon "retired" to his farm named "Fairview" (no longer extant), located northwest of Springfield on Chinkapin Hill. In the 1830s Chinkapin Hill was the site of a settlement of black farmers who resided there for a number of years.

Herndon, who died in 1891, is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery a short distance from the original receiving vault where Lincoln's and Willie's bodies were temporarily placed.

I have asked Roger for help in getting photos of the sites onto this posting.
