Robert Lincoln on film?
I once read somewhere (cannot recall where) that Robert Lincoln was filmed at the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in 1922. Has anyone ever heard of this?

RE: Robert Lincoln on film?
Roger,
Jason Emerson has a picture during the dedication where Robert is barely visible, but in my quick scan of the book he doesn't mention a movie. I don't know that I've ever seen film of the ceremony. Is there even a sound recording of the speeches made that day? Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. RE: Robert Lincoln on film?
Rob, my best guess is that it would be a silent film newsreel IF one exists.

RE: Robert Lincoln on film?
I can remember seeing a photograph of Lincoln sitting down next to President Harding, but I forget where I saw it. You would think that someone would have filmed this as having historical value. After all just about every heavyweight championship fight with Jack Dempsey and Jack Johnson is on film.

RE: Robert Lincoln on film?
I have never seen newsreel footage of the dedication, but it could exist. Here is a website with a couple of photographs of Robert at the dedication:

RE: Robert Lincoln on film?
Being fairly new on this forum, I am unsure as to whether anyone here is connected to the Facebook site "What's New About Abraham Lincoln," or if it is coincidental, but today they posted this link to C-SPAN containing a brief clip of RTL at the dedication of this Lincoln Memorial. He appears at the very end, and appears a bit more spritely than I would have anticipated. Still photographs show Lincoln being help up the stairs of the memorial, and looking more frail.

RE: Robert Lincoln on film?
Dan,
You have probably already seen the posting on the other RTL thread. That Facebook site is from one of our very own posters here. |
