Bill,

If you've got $200,000 sitting around, you could have it for your very own.

Looks like Lattimer had some interesting stuff.

Here's what each lot went for.

And Lincoln-related items were not all that he collected. His mansion also had suits of armor from the Middle Ages and relics from other wars along with an assortment of "interesting" items.

Dr. Lattimer was no slouch when it came to collecting, obvioulsy. I thought especially of you Rob when I saw those Lincoln suspenders. Interesting that had Mary Lincoln's commode- now that would be quite a conversation piece, wouldn't it?

Here's an interesting article from the New York Times: "In a Father’s Clutter, Historic Oddities," August 21, 2008.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/21/garden...d=all&_r=0

Does anyone know what happened to Lattimer's research papers? He refers to diagrams of Seward's house in Kennedy and Lincoln: Medical & Ballistic Comparisons of Their Assassinations.

"It is apparent, from studying diagrams of the Seward house and testimony about the attack, that the door through which the would-be assassin entered must have been the same wall against which the head of the bed rested."

The Pelz diagram of Seward's third floor in the Evening Star seems to have the door at right angles to Seward's bed.

Linda,

The National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections doesn't list Lattimer's papers and neither does ArchiveGrid, so either they're still in the family's hands or they've been deposited in an archive somewhere that hasn't processed them yet. Given that he studied and taught at Columbia, my money would be on them as an eventual repository.

And Bill, even my best set of suspenders wouldn't bring what his did. Smile

After watching this show, I would sum it up as "laughable".
'Parkland' was far better.

I watched it also. I got the sense that the actors were "trying too hard" - if you get what I mean.

I didn't see it yet, but last night PBS aired a few episodes on American Experience about JFK that were very good. There is also a new episode of Nova that investigates the assassination.

Funny how the American Experience JFK episode didn't mention JFK, RFK, and old man Kennedy's backing of Joe McCarthy.
After all, the old man bankrolled McCarthy and both of his sons worked for him.
Just wondering, that's all I'm saying....

It didn't really get into the unions in Chicago either. It simply stated that JFK won a narrow victory in IL thanks to Cook County.

I did find LBJ's comment about Kennedy's Pediatrician allowing him to run for office funny.
