I believe this may be the earliest depiction of the Naval Yard Bridge. It is from a painting called " The City of Washington From Beyond the Navy Yard" that was done during the Jackson administration. I find the history of DC interesting and it is neat to see how the city looked back then. The Capitol and White House dominated the view.

What a BEAUTIFUL painting - I, too love DC history. It's facinating and a vital part of what we study ourselves regarding the history of the assassination. I also love Baltimore history as well.

Hey Heath: Any idea where the original picture may be? The early images of Washington are great. There is a panorama of Washington where you can see that Ford's Theatre is a much larger building than most immediately around it. Now it is dwarfed.

Just a guess, but the D.C. Historical Society has a wonderful collection of D.C. photos and engravings called the Kiplinger Collection.

Which is the Navy Yard Bridge? The one on the left, or the one on the right? Either way, if I remember correctly, Ford's was only a few blocks from the White House. It looks like Booth only had only a few mile ride, at best, to get to the bridge.

If I am not mistaken, the Navy Bridge is on the far right. The other bridge I believe is the Long Bridge.
