Interesting David that you leave out the comment about impugning the character and reputation of Lincoln. That's all a person needs to read to determine your point of view.
I have to admit to confusion as to your second point. I said Wilentz's critique was worthwhile. I agree with his point that the book lacks historical soundness. Only you could extrapolate that I am somehow opposed to historical soundness. Gene, I have a subscription to the Times. When I get home I can post it here.
