One-man show, “The Player King,” about Booths

Too bad that the Ford's Theatre Society does not encourage more historical productions relevant to the Booths, the Civil War, and the assassination.

About twenty years ago, the British actor Roy Dotrice was allowed to perform a one-man show as Mr. Lincoln on the Ford's stage. He bore an eerie resemblance to Abe. When he walked onto the bare stage at the beginning of the performance, he removed his top hat, turned to the Presidential Box, and bowed to it for about 15 seconds before beginning his monologue. It brought tears to my eyes and many around me. Even men - you could tell because they always clear their throats or give a slight cough to cover their tears.
