RE: Happy Birthday, Dr. Wayne C.Temple
I first met Doc when I presented a paper at a Conference on Illinois History about Carl Sandburg and James Randall. Doc had provided me with some documents and other references about the pair. I never got over the feeling that he was somewhat disappointed in my presentation since I didn't go much (if any) into Randall's teaching ability. I didn't because a professor at Eastern Illinois University who studied under Randall told me that often times Randall's notes were so jumbled from his throwing them on his desk after class that he didn't know where to pick up during the next class.
i have honestly never read any of Doc's books, but that puts him in pretty good company. Of all my Lincoln books I have probably read less than a quarter of them. Maybe one day! Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg
