RE: A Sandburg Stumper
No Googling, please.
In 1929, Carl Sandburg, working for the Chicago Daily News, scored an interview with a famous individual who was not a politician, historian, or writer. Sandburg asked the following question: “Is there any one character in history you are especially interested in, such as Lincoln, Washington, Napoleon?” The man, who wasn't a very good interview, replied, “I’ve never seen any of them.” Who was Sandburg interviewing? Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg
