Sorry, David , I will have to disagree with you.
I split the century half on my left hand and half on my right.

Allocated 10 years to each finger /thumb ...


So if each of my fingers/thumb is worth 10 years ...

First finger left hand = 1800 -1809 (1 st Jan 1800 up until 31 Dec 1809)
2nd finger left hand = 1810 - 1819 (1 Jan 1810 to 31 Dec 1819)
3rd ............ = 1820 - 1829
4th finger ... = 1830 - 1839
Thumb ............ = 1840 - 1849

Right Hand
First finger = 1850 -1859 (1 st Jan 1850 up until 31 Dec 1859)
2nd finger = 1860 - 1869 (1 Jan 1860 to 31 Dec 1869)
3rd ............ = 1870 - 1879
4th finger ... = 1880 - 1889
Thumb ............ = 1890 - 1899 (to 31 Dec 1899)

So 1850 is in second half of the century. Plus the president died in July which makes it definitely second half.

And to top it all, I was born in 1950. And I'd prefer to say that was the second half of the century.
