RE: A Sandburg Stumper
Steve got it. It was the Pulitzer Prize that Sandburg won for Abraham Lincoln: The War Years. I was going through my files looking for the letter, and I have yet to find it. My first thought was that the correspondent was Stanley Kimmel, but the letter I have from him, while mentioning the Prize, doesn't have the quote. Sadly, my memory ain't what she used to be, honest or otherwise.
Mike, my reference to shadow was my attempt to confuse people by letting everyone think it could be a person or a thing. My next clue was going to be while most people only had one, Sandburg had three. The first was in 1919 for Cornhuskers while the second was The War Years. The third was The Complete Poems of Carl Sandburg. By the way Roger, how many posts do I have to make before I'm considered a Hero member? Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg
