RE: A Sandburg Stumper
In the letter that Sandburg wrote to Lewis, he started out "Jefferson is the only other President of the USA I can think of who would draw out of me the same drudgery, and sustain me thru it, as Lincoln does." After the comment he made about Lincoln dying "at the right time" Sandburg wrote "somehow if Lincoln had rounded out a natural life his personality would have been or become the sort of legend and tradition Jefferson is."
One wonders what it would have been like if Sandburg has turned his attention ot Jefferson after finishing the Lincoln biography. Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell
I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg
