RE: Good Article on BoothieBarn
Thanks to Steve for sending this article. Steve writes, "The article is from page 1 of the Tuesday, July 24, 1860 edition of the Baltimore Daily Exchange. It's about the upcoming season of the Holliday Street Theatre, "Old Drury", which had been closed since the start of the summer. Towards the end of the article, it mentions the theater is going to reopen on July 30, 1860 with a performance by George Christy's minstrels. Following this it mentions that John Wilkes Booth had just arrived in Baltimore, "in this connection", which I interpret to mean that it was planned for Booth to attend the opening. (As opposed to accompanying the minstrel act onstage?) The article then goes into how Booth would be performing in New Orleans in the fall (he actually performed in Columbus, Georgia, then in Montgomery, Alabama)."
