Good Article on BoothieBarn - L Verge - 07-30-2019 02:19 PM https://drmudd.org/2019/07/29/in-the-footsteps-of-dr-mudd-in-the-city-of-baltimore/ Please read this very good article by Mudd House volunteer, Bob Bowser, on the ties that Dr. Mudd had to the city of Baltimore -- something many of us know, but never give serious thought to. BTW: Bob was my grandson's 11th grade U.S. history teacher several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the class and learned a lot -- even to the point of wanting to discuss history with me (highly unusual for teenagers today!). RE: Good Article on BoothieBarn - RJNorton - 07-31-2019 04:39 AM Thanks to Steve for sending this article. Steve writes, "The article is from page 1 of the Tuesday, July 24, 1860 edition of the Baltimore Daily Exchange. It's about the upcoming season of the Holliday Street Theatre, "Old Drury", which had been closed since the start of the summer. Towards the end of the article, it mentions the theater is going to reopen on July 30, 1860 with a performance by George Christy's minstrels. Following this it mentions that John Wilkes Booth had just arrived in Baltimore, "in this connection", which I interpret to mean that it was planned for Booth to attend the opening. (As opposed to accompanying the minstrel act onstage?) The article then goes into how Booth would be performing in New Orleans in the fall (he actually performed in Columbus, Georgia, then in Montgomery, Alabama)." RE: Good Article on BoothieBarn - Steve - 07-31-2019 12:57 PM For reference, the ad image above the article comes from the same paper, except from the July 28th edition. RE: Good Article on BoothieBarn - L Verge - 07-31-2019 08:11 PM Still on the subject of Mudd, but about Ft. Jefferson: If you have never been to the Dry Tortugas and the fort (and doubt you will ever get there), this is a great site for gorgeous photos. Bet the Lincoln conspirators were not too thrilled by the beauty, however. http://www.lovethesepics.com/2012/08/dry-tortugas-coastal-fortress-coral-reefs-marine-life-shipwrecks-sunken-treasure/ |
