Trivia time (and it's a two-parter!); without the ever-present, all-seeing eye of Google,
1. When did "In God We Trust" appear on US money? and

2. What purported diary or journal of a well-known 19th century celebrity does this fact destroy?

I do not know about #2, but I think #1 happened while Lincoln was President. So I shall guess 1862.
