About the smell of old books - I heartily agree, Gene! I LOVE the smell and particularly the feel of old leather bound volumes - and I have a great many.... it, too is the first thing I notice in an old bookstore - love, love it!

As a matter of fact, when I buy any old books they go right straight into the freezer at first! Now - before you think I've gone completely bonkers, it's an old trick that I was taught by a friend who worked for years at the Library of Congress. Putting old books into the freezer wrapped in saran wrap overnight or for a day or so kills any silverfish or bookworms which may exist in the old paper! And yes, it works!
