The interesting detail to me in the video is that his descendant has his papers and the claim may be in those papers. This Dr. Abbott and a fellow black doctor supposedly attended a reception at the White House in February of 1864, and raised eyebrows when spotted in the receiving line. Robert Lincoln supposedly went to his father's side and whispered something that Dr. Abbott took to be a question about whether or not the two doctors' "invasion" would be allowed - and it was. I will be using that account in an upcoming issue of the Surratt Courier. |
