That's the way I have read it, and that the people had not even gotten entirely quiet after Everett's speech yet. (Could you name one of those who claim he was pleased? Thanks.) I don't think I've seen the theory Lincoln was immediately pleased. Donald considers Lincoln's "not scour" quote to Lamont reliable, other than the rest of Lamon's Gettysburg account.
