Although the first usage of the term "Milk Shake" appeared in 1885; it appears that Milk Punch was primarily drank in the 19th Century; mostly in a warmed or hot format with whiskey or bourbon added; plus sugar. It sounds almost the same. Remember our "friends", Weichmann, Mudd and Surratt drank Milk Punches -
