Clara Barton's D.C. Office
One of the sites visited during the Surratt Conference weekend this year was the downtown office of Clara Barton, from which she worked to assist soldiers and their families after the Civil War. I just received word that it is now open to the public for visitation. See below:
Dear Friend of Clara Barton, I have great news!!! The Missing Soldiers Office is OPEN!!!! We are now open on the weekends with a special exhibit of Alexander Gardner’s photographs of Antietam. These scenes of Clara’s first battle bring the reality of war to the viewer in a way first experienced over a century and a half ago. If you have now seen the exhibit, please make it a point to get down to the office and see it. PS: Forum member Wes Harris did a great article on Miss Barton's work here for the Surratt Courier about a year ago. Wes, want to share??? |
