RE: Lincoln Forum
The Lincoln Forum has a website at http://www.thelincolnforum.com. Their conference is always in November close to the Remembrance Day celebration honoring the Gettysburg Cemetery dedication and address on the 19th. I don't know if the 2014 date has been engraved in stone, however. The conference has become so popular, however, that they almost force you to become a dues paying member in order to get a reservation.
As for a good time to visit D.C.: After the 15th of September and before the cold winds in mid-November. The tourists and school groups are gone and the weather remains pretty temperate during that period. From mid-March to the end of August, natives of the area avoid the city because of the large visitation - and also because the heat and humidity can kill you! The invention of air conditioning is the best thing to ever happen to D.C. and Southern Maryland. Picture a peninsula bounded by the Anacostia River, the Potomac River, a variety of small rivers flowing into the Potomac, and then the Potomac dumping into that magnificent Chesapeake Bay, which is only about 45 miles from the city. It's not hard to steam Maryland crabs - sometimes the summer temperatures almost do it for you! Sorry, I gave the wrong web address: try http://www.thelincolnforum.org. |
