RE: Another Lincoln Movie
My husband and I got back from the 7:40 showing of Saving Lincoln at the Quad Cinema in NYC, the one that had Salvador Litvak and Harold Holzer taking questions from the audience afterward. We were able to congratulate Mr. Litvak on his (and his wife's) excellent achievement, and say hello to Harold Holzer, too. Both of them were extremely accessible and seemed like thoroughly nice individuals.
I'm really pooped right now (it's 1:05 a.m.), but just wanted to say that the movie is definitely worth seeing if you have the opportunity. Saving Lincoln is a unique take on our 16th president, told through the eyes of Ward Hill Lamon, Lincoln's occasional law partner on the circuit back in Illinois and Abe's devoted bodyguard in Washington DC. The "cinecollage" cinematography is almost spooky in its ability to take you back to that time and to many of the scenes and situations that have become familiar to those of us who are fascinated with the subject of Abraham Lincoln. By the way, many audience members seemed genuinely moved by the movie. One fellow sitting in the row ahead of us had tears rolling down his cheeks. I hope the filmmakers are able to obtain a wider release for Saving Lincoln. Check out my web sites: http://www.petersonbird.com http://www.elizabethjrosenthal.com |
