Sorry Roger, but neither of those are correct. It's in the Midwest. Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg

How about Beloit, Wisconsin? Lincoln was there during the Black Hawk War (1832) and again to give a speech (1859).

That's a logical guess, but not correct. The second time he visited here was in conjunction with a very famous event. Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg

No, Mike. It was a political event. Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell I want the respect of intelligent men, but I will choose for myself the intelligent. --Carl Sandburg

| RE: Statue Trivia (02-13-2024 09:49 AM)Rob Wick Wrote: Next clue. Remember my research interests. That looks similar to Vinnie Ream's statue of Lincoln (pose, etc.). But that statue is inside in the US Capitol. There is a copy of Ream's statue in Galesburg, IL (I don't remember who made the copy). It's just outside the train station. I visited it several years ago. Seeing as how Galesburg is also Sandburg country (in addition to being the site of the 5th Lincoln-Douglas debate), that would be my guess. | |||

Sorry Gene, but Scott got it. The statue is outside the train museum in Galesburg. I took the picture when I spoke at the Sandburg Days Festival of the Mind a few years ago.
