Yes, Eva, it IS a private home. But when he went there, it was not for a expressly for a personal visit to the owner (though Lincoln did speak to the owners).

Exceptional guess! However, still not correct. His visit to Richmond being an example, Lincoln took a few trips outside of Washington DC during the war. He visited this site on one of those trips. An additional clue: It was NOT on his trip to Gettysburg.

Roger, I can't get the link to work. But as I see in the full url there is a reference to a secret visit to West Point. That would not be the correct trip.

Another clue: Lincoln visited the site in question in 1862.

Sorry Joe, this is not correct. But another interesting attempt. Remember, the Lincoln "excursion" from Washington DC related to this site took place in 1862.
