RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
(12-23-2015 06:23 PM)Eva Elisabeth Wrote: Wonderful - we have a clear winner tonight, three first places, and six winners altogether - to me every participant is a winner (as "dabeisein ist alles" - "it's the taking part that counts"!) What a wonderful way to end the contest - sharing first place with two of my best friends - and courtesy of a dear friend, Eva. If I had been smart enough to enlarge the photo, I would have seen the ballerinas and had another clue to search for. A very fitting ending, Eva, since I suspect that you have danced in the Nutcracker in earlier years. P.S. I don't think I have ever told you that one of my daughter's ballet teachers had danced under Mikhail Baryschnikov after he came to America. |

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
The entire thread was wonderful, Eva, but if you want two favorites, mine would be the Jack Lincoln photo (because I've never seen it before) and The River Queen photo.
They were all tough and I joke about "cheating", but with the small snippets of pictures, it has to be done. Usually I won't answer a question unless I have an idea and then I allow myself one Google to confirm it. Thank you so much for the fun, Eva and the three way tie was neat! You are very much loved by all your friends here. "There are few subjects that ignite more casual, uninformed bigotry and condescension from elites in this nation more than Dixie - Jonah Goldberg" |

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
PS: As for the favorite questions - mine probably were GWTW, because it's so well known, and the Lincoln wallet, because it is so essentially Lincoln and assassination, thus both were possible for everyone to get, and yet these challenged y'all quite much...

Thanks for sharing your favourites! |

I liked them all, but I think my absolute favorite was Hannah Armstrong as my original guess was so ridiculous (far off!!!!) that I decided to delete it almost immediately. Right now I cannot decide on a second favorite other than to tell you I sure looked forward to guessing at your questions the past 24 days! Thank you again for doing this. Simply wonderful. |

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
I have noticed that some Advent Calendars include the 25th. Eve, would it be alright if I included a question for the 25th?

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
Thomas, no Advent calendar in Germany does as Xmas Eve is the main celebration and time of gift giving (although both the 25th+26th are public holidays). But, please, feel free to add #25, till y'all have to wait longer!

Where is this, and what does this have to do with the assassination?

RE: Trivia Advent Calendar
The poinsettias remind me of your Mudd House photos - but I doubt it's period... you mentioned you display trains on Xmas, does it have to do therewith

You are correct, it is a miniature of the Petersen House at a train display at a DC Landmark, but which one would be covered with flowers? It is right across from the Capitol Reflecting pool I stumped Y'all. It's at the DC Botanic Garden. They have a really nice holiday setup. Thomas Kearney, Professional Photobomber. |
