RE: Where we're you when Nixon resigned?
Juan and Herb, I strongly agree with both your comments. I might add that Truman had the deepest knowledge of history of any president. He spoke of Roman history as though he had been there.
The books Truman wrote without "assistants" are a joy to read. Nixon's books written without assistants are also far more readable. --Jim Please visit my blog: http://jimsworldandwelcometoit.com/ |

The man could bend silverware effortlessly and he kept his cool during four years of a bloody and divisive Civil War that saw him mocked, betrayed, attacked and undercut....even by the people who were supposed to have been supporting him. He took a licking and kept on ticking during that unprecedented hell. If that's not strength, I don't know what it is. |

I agree that Lincoln was probably our strongest president, both physically and mentally. President Ford might have come in a a close second, physically, as he was a former collegiate athlete.

Theodore Roosevelt was also physically and mentally tough.
So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

Ahh yes, thanks Gene C...forgot about Teddy R. He suffered a lifetime of respiratory problems and was a severe asthmatic. But there is no doubt about his mental toughness!
Ever read the account of how he handled the ordeal of traveling through the Amazonian rain forest for three months?? |

Yes, I recently read T.R. the Last Romantic by H.W.Brands. That trip down the Amazon came real close to killing him.
So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

RE: Where we're you when Nixon resigned?
Yes Roger that's true. Gerald Ford was a highly recruited football player. I also suspect he was never as "thick" as the pundits made him out to be. Not glamorous, but an essentially decent man.
Probably one of the most decent men ever to be President. |

RE: Where we're you when Nixon resigned?
LBJ was the biggest sleaze ever to sit in the White House.
A deluxe liar-I can understand how one of his early nicknames was 'Bull' Johnson. Read any of Robert Caro's books about LBJ, especially the second one-amazing stuff. Knowing what we know now, JFK, RFK, and LBJ should have never been elected to ANY position of power! The USA would have been so much better off without those 3. Their evil influence reverberates to this day...... |

RE: Where we're you when Nixon resigned?
I was watching the news tonight and the political reverberations were so bad, they made the Brady Bunch reruns look good.
(out of respect to the viewing audience, I refrained from posting this theme song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85jKDa2zpus ) oops! So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |
