Lincoln statues around the world
Over in the "Extra Credit Questions" thread Roger asked a question about the location of a statue of Lincoln. The answer was Mexico City.

That got me thinking about what other cities around the world (outside of the US) might be home to statues of Mr. Lincoln.

Does anyone know of any such cities that have statues of Lincoln or even better, any photographs?

I know there is a statue of Lincoln in Parliament Square in London. I may have a photo of that one but I am not sure. I will have to dig through vacation photos from several years ago.

RE: Lincoln statues around the world
Scott, with the help of other forum members, I was able to compile a list of Lincoln statues. At a minimum there are statues in Norway, Scotland, England, Austria, France, Guatemala, Canada, Israel, and three in Mexico.

Angela made a wonderful post on the statue in Salzburg, Austria, here. Eva did the same for the statue in Oslo, Norway, here. Anita discovered the ones in Guatemala, Israel, and Canada, and Angela discovered the one in France.

P.S. Scott, makes thanks! Due to your post below I just added Cuba and Ecuador to the list.

Thanks Roger! And thanks to all the others who posted on this topic in the past. Sorry I did not see those threads initially.

I found this website (give it a minute, the picture at the top loads a little slowly). There is a neat map that has some statues (many of which you have already cited but an additional one in Cuba of all places). Nearer the bottom of the page there is a place where you can click on "see full transcript". This gives a little synopsis of each of the statues. I like the one about the Cuba statue that says:
"In Havana, Cuba, there is a bust of Abraham Lincoln in the Museum of the Revolution. This demonstrates that Lincoln is seen as a figure of freedom rather than Americanism."

Great pictures, Eva - still so many to see! I missed out on Petersburg last year and am looking forward to seeing the statues in that area when I visit in two month.

Angela, is it the same photographer who made the wonderful calendar? ("Photos courtesy of David Wiegers, Gurnee, Illinois.")

I know Dave Wiegers. He is a really nice guy and I get a "wonderful calendar" from him every year. Now that I think of it, I will get a chance to talk with him in November.

Here is link to his website.

Many thanks to Dan C. for sending these photos. His nephew took the pictures. This is the Lincoln statue in Ecuador.

RE: Lincoln statues around the world
There are times when I think the other areas know more about Lincoln than we give them credit for.I think that is a very sad comentary on our"new educational system"!

Herb, I think that is a very perceptive comment. I receive mail through my Lincoln website from many countries. I can tell you there is a great deal of Lincoln knowledge/interest in India, for example.

RE: Lincoln statues around the world
Can someone provide me with any information on a Lincoln statue/bust that someone found in Guatemala. Also one on Canada. I cannot locate information anywhere on the piece in Guatemala. I am quite suspicious of one in Canada. The only reference to one in Canada, that I have found, was a statue of another bearded gentleman that was misidentified as Lincoln.

Just to add to the list I have found additional statues in Portugal, Japan, Singapore, Moscow and a missing one in Australia. There are three in Mexico, and two and maybe three in Havana.

Currently trying to confirm a statue in Rio de Janiero that has a full sized statue of Lincoln in a group that includes George Washington as well.

The statue in Quito, Ecuador is a copy of one by C.S. Paolo that is one the campus of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee.
