Lincoln" instead of using his full name? Not saying this is fake or anything, but it seems odd. But here is another thought: “In some ways, you’re looking at the signature but not in a way you might expect. Of course, I’m looking to make sure it’s Lincoln’s handwriting. But I’m also making sure it’s signed ‘Abraham Lincoln’ not ‘A Lincoln’, because Lincoln signed his letters ‘A Lincoln’ but these formal documents were always signed with his full name. One signed the wrong way is pretty much as close to the kiss of death as you can get. He was consistent in his practice.” https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/feb/19/abraham-lincoln-document-sale RE: New Lincoln Original Document Found - mbgross - 03-09-2024 12:08 PM I guess it's a scary world out there for the Lincoln collector. So many fakes, fake provenances, some sketchy people. Even if I had the money, I would be scared to death of getting taken. RE: New Lincoln Original Document Found - Rob Wick - 03-09-2024 10:42 PM This is coming from my memory, so I'm sure I am completely butchering this, but I seem to remember something that Oliver Barrett said to the effect that during his time collecting, he was sure he had been cheated, maybe several times, but he bought something just on the off chance that it was real. I searched for a while to try and find it but came up empty, so let the reader beware. Best Rob RE: New Lincoln Original Document Found - Donna McCreary - 03-13-2024 09:50 AM Robert's son, Abraham "Jack" Lincoln, had a hobby of coping his grandfather's name and developed a signature that matched it. Many people have purchased Lincoln signatures not realizing it was the grandson's and not the president's. As always, buyer beware and be careful. Just to be clear, did President Lincoln's grandson sell these "signatures" himself as if the signatures were legitimate? |
