Forum members: let's build a list on this thread of cities/towns/places that we are aware of that have a Lincoln Museum or exhibit in a museum- or similar attraction. This way we can plan to visit some of these places when we travel. Since I live in Michigan, I can start with my own area:
The Plymouth Historical Museum: Plymouth, Michigan
(has a Lincoln Exhibit with many artifacts).
The Henry Ford: Dearborn, Michigan
(has the Lincoln assassination chair & the actual Logan County Courthouse that he practiced law in).

In Athens, Illinois, there is the Long Nine Museum.
In Redlands, California, there is the Lincoln Memorial Shrine.
In Harrogate, Tennesse, there is the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum.
In Hodgenville, Kentucky, there is the Lincoln Museum.
In Charleston, Illinois, there is the Lincoln Douglas Debate Museum.
In Lexington, Kentucky, there is the Mary Todd Lincoln House.
In Louisville, Kentucky, there is Farmington, the Speed family home.

In Lincoln, Illinois, at Lincoln College, there is the Lincoln Heritage Museum. A perfect trifecta.

In Illinois there is Lincoln's New Salem, Lincoln Home NHS, Lincoln's Tomb, and other various Lincoln sites such as the Presidential Library and Museum, which I would recommend seeing.

Indiana is the location of the Lincoln Boyhood Home National Memorial. This memorial site also includes the Pioneer Cemetery where Nancy (Hanks) Lincoln is buried. Also present in Indiana, is Lincoln State park (very near the National Memorial). It is home to a small cemetery near the Little Pigeon Baptist Church where Sarah (Lincoln) Grigsby - Abraham's sister - is buried.

Bill, the Chicago History Museum has a large Lincoln collection. I knew it as the Chicago Historical Society when I lived in the Chicago area. Also, I think there is a plaque where the Wigwam was located.

Thanks, Maddie! I have read that Lincoln had three moles on his face, one on right side and two on left. I am very familiar with seeing the one on the right side but am hard pressed to think of a Lincoln photo where the ones on the left show clearly. Can anyone think of such a photo?

Also in Spencer County, Indiana, in the city of Rockport is the Lincoln Pioneer Village. The cabins were built to replicate the ones from the Pigeon Creek community. (Plus a train station was added when the site was used as a movie site.) They have a small museum with some artifacts from the community and Lincoln's neighbors. I think they also have a cabinet that is believed to have been made by Thomas Lincoln.

Roger, I have been searching through photos and though there are several photos that show the left side of his face fairly well, I haven't seen consistency between photos. Some look like there are moles and then on another photo, there doesn't appear to be any. Its so hard to tell with the natural photographic artifacts present in photos of that time period. I almost think the only way you could really get something clear enough would be to get a print made directly from the original glass plate negatives (and blow up the left side of his face).

Harold Holzer was kind of enough to suggest to me some "must see" Lincoln sites in NYC when I was going for a brief visit several years ago. Unfortunately, I was there over a holiday and everything was either closed or I just couldn't get there around my other obligations. I hope to make it back sometime this year and visit these sites:
Cooper Union - the site where Lincoln participated in a debate and many believe it was this appearance that gave him credibility in national terms
The Plymouth Church (Brooklyn) - The pew where Lincoln sat is marked
New York City Hall - A reception was held here on Lincoln's inaugural journey and of course this is also where he lay in state during his funeral.
One of our members here, Richard Sloan, may also have some suggestions especially regarding sites associated with Lincoln's funeral.
