Lincoln Legends, Myths, Hoaxes and ...... - Gene C - 11-25-2013 08:47 PM 230 pages of different and interesting information by Ed Steers. 2 chapters on the Gettysburg address, a chapter debunking the Lincoln is Gay myth, but my favorite chapters were about the missing pages from Booth's diary and the one on Ray Neff and the Potter Papers. I bought a brand new copy on Amazon for less than $5, I think it was a bargain! http://www.amazon.com/Lincoln-Legends-Confabulations-Associated-President/dp/0813124662/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385429643&sr=8-1&keywords=lincoln+legends+myths RE: Lincoln Legends, Myths, Hoaxes and ...... - RJNorton - 11-26-2013 05:11 AM I second Gene (although I paid a lot more). Ed did a marvelous job in this book. Among my favorite characters that Ed covers is "Coughdrop Joey" Ratto. Joey mistakenly became known as the "man who held Booth's horse." "Coughdrop Joey" Ratto

Gene, Thanks for posting the link. I just ordered mine new for $2.98. Maybe we need a thread for bargain books! Roger, I can't wait to read about "Coughdrop Joey" Ratto. Worth my $2.98 for the book! RE: Lincoln Legends, Myths, Hoaxes and ...... - Eva Elisabeth - 11-26-2013 08:59 PM My favorite is Wilma Frances Minor, the young lady who fooled so many experts with fake A.-Lincoln-Ann-Ruthledge letters...(I'm pretty sure her age, sex and appearance made the greatest part of her initial success.) RE: Lincoln Legends, Myths, Hoaxes and ...... - Gene C - 11-26-2013 09:22 PM Yes, that was a good chapter. I had heard about her, but didn't know the full story. RE: Lincoln Legends, Myths, Hoaxes and ...... - Rob Wick - 11-26-2013 09:58 PM I think without a doubt the best treatment of the Wilma Minor affair is in Don Fehrenbacher's masterful Lincoln in Text and Context, which is a collection of essays written by the late Lincoln historian. She will also make appearances in my books on Tarbell and Sandburg. "Coughdrop Joey" Ratto would be a great Mafia name. Despite the fact that at least one Italian,Pope Pius IX,has been accused of being involved in the conspiracy,I am unaware of anyone who has accused the Mafia of participation. Tom RE: Lincoln Legends, Myths, Hoaxes and ...... - BettyO - 11-27-2013 07:15 AM Cough Drop Joey looks a bit like John Carradine from this photo.... one of my favorite actors. We have discussed his role in The Prisoner of Shark Island..... I love John Carradine too. He was quite prolific as an actor. Remember when he played a preacher who was blinded in the TV series Kung Fu? His nickname for Caine (Daivid Carradine) was "little brother." HA! That was my favorite too! As someone who is more than a little tired of reading about Angel Annie and Lincoln's(alleged) great love for her, I took wicked delight in having all those letters revealed as fake. They were so corny anyway, almost as bad as the Edgar Lee Masters "Spoon River Anthology" poem. "Bloom from my bosom O Republic"! |
