RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Wild Bill - 04-12-2017 06:31 AM Warren Harding RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Rogerm - 04-12-2017 06:54 AM Abrham Lincoln If my Lincoln guess is wrong, I will try Franklin Roosevelt, because he died in Georgia, I believe. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 04-12-2017 07:47 AM Those are definitely good and logical guesses, Gene and Roger. But Kudos to Bill - indeed it was Warren Harding. Harding died in California and his remains came back to Washington via train. The funeral train departed San Francisco on August 3, 1923, and arrived in Washington on August 7, 1923. There is a short film on Harding's funeral train coming through Chicago. Previous to asking this question I had never seen the clip before. http://mirc.sc.edu/islandora/object/usc:24620 RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 04-13-2017 02:33 PM Which U.S. President lived the shortest amount of time after leaving office? RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Gene C - 04-13-2017 03:05 PM Lincoln. He was dead less than 12 hours after leaving his White House office. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 04-13-2017 04:26 PM Kudos, Laurie! It was Polk. James K. Polk lived only 103 days after leaving office. He was 53 years old when he passed away on June 15, 1849. Gene, you are a winner, too. (I just didn't mean the question the way you interpreted it.) President Polk was considered one of the hardest working Presidents we had. After leaving office, he and his wife decided to visit parts of the U.S. before settling into retirement. He got caught up in a cholera epidemic and died. He was buried in a mass grave with 32 other cholera victims for over a year. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 04-18-2017 05:30 AM Regarding auctions, which First Lady said: "My slogan is "Never come home empty-handed." RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Gene C - 04-18-2017 05:57 AM I can picture Mary Lincoln at an auction saying that, but it's to obvious so I'll guess Bess Truman, which may explain this hat http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/ee/01/42/ee0142facc963a8b6ea696f8e9f1631b.jpg RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 04-18-2017 06:44 AM Gene and Eva, it was not Mary Lincoln or Bess Truman. Hint #1: This First Lady has been mentioned occasionally on the forum. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 04-18-2017 06:53 AM Jackie Kennedy? RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 04-18-2017 07:45 AM That is a good guess, Eva, but it's not Jackie Kennedy. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Wild Bill - 04-18-2017 08:50 AM Lady Bird Johnson RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 04-18-2017 09:52 AM I am sorry, Bill, but it's not Lady Bird Johnson. Hint #2: It is a 20th century First Lady. |
