RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 09-06-2016 02:00 PM Hint #2: He once said his wife did not have a mink coat. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Wild Bill - 09-06-2016 02:04 PM Richard Nixon RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 09-06-2016 02:18 PM Brilliant, Bill. Indeed it was President Nixon. http://historythings.com/the-last-words-of-our-dead-presidents/ You and Laurie both win dogs named Checkers. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 09-10-2016 04:24 PM In whose backyard was this picture taken? Beckert - 09-10-2016 06:56 PM I'll guess Washington's at Mt. Vernon. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 09-11-2016 01:21 AM Kudos, Joe is correct. Joe, you win a bucket of fish from the lake. (And thanks to Bill Binzel for taking and sharing the photo.) RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 09-12-2016 11:07 AM Who was the last sick/dying American President to be treated with the medical practice called bloodletting? RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Gene C - 09-12-2016 11:44 AM I don't know which President, but we taxpayers have been enduring this for years. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - Eva Elisabeth - 09-12-2016 12:54 PM King Leopold II died of that end of the 18th century, and I would think at that time the method was about to fade. I'd guess Washington. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 09-12-2016 01:17 PM Good try, Eva, as Washington was treated in this manner. Roughly 40% of his blood was drained!! However, he was not the last President to be treated with the bloodletting. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - PaigeBooth - 09-12-2016 01:54 PM Very interesting about Washington losing almost 40% of his blood, Roger; I didn't realize it was that much. I will guess Benjamin Harrison? Or maybe, Zachary Taylor? Taylor passed away in 1850, perhaps bloodletting was more popular at that time. Harrison did not become president until 1889. I know Benjamin Harrison's grandfather, President William Henry Harrison, refused the bloodletting procedure. William Henry Harrison was the first US President to die in office. RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - RJNorton - 09-12-2016 02:30 PM Excellent, Paige! It was Zachary Taylor who was the last to have the procedure. With Taylor the doctors also tried blistering his skin. Taylor passed away on July 9, 1850. I cannot think of a prize for this type of question so you just win best wishes for health and happiness! RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia - L Verge - 09-12-2016 06:55 PM I posed this trivia question while commenting on the new book, The President is Dead!, but never got an answer: Where is Thomas Jefferson's original tombstone located today? |
